Fun at the Chiropractor

Caitlin is very good at many things, but one thing she is great at has always been finding ways to entertain herself. Last week, she decided that Hawaii would be a nice place to be during spring break... so she laid herself out under a light, on a nice beach mat, sunglasses and all.

Today at Dr. Mindy's office she made do with a large basket and a blanket.

Goofy girl? Yes. My girl? Yes.

The Making of a Nerd

Last month, Anna and I for some reason felt like revisiting all the Harry Potter movies. It's always fun to watch the entire series and see how much the kids grew over the past decade. In the process however, we managed to start Caitlin onto the path of the nerd...

Caitlin can pick Harry Potter out of a crowd too! We were at Target the other day and she started yelling out at the top of her lungs, "HARRY POTTER!" We didn't notice the giant picture of Harry Potter above the DVD section of the store... but Caitlin saw it. Hopefully later on we can get her into the books too. =)

Happy 23 Month Birthday!!

It never ceases to amaze me how fast time flies with Caitlin. Looking at her pictures always is a fascinating experience because her growth from month to month is amazing. Caitlin is 23 months as of today (11/21), and we got a chance to visit our friends Jeff and Amy in Dublin. My personal favorite thing about Dublin is eating at Fuddrucker's. They are one of a handful of places you can get unique "healthy" alternative meats for your hamburgers... buffalo, elk, ostrich, and the more common turkey. Personally I always recommend the buffalo, which has about a third of the fat of regular beef and it is high in Omega-3.

Caitlin on the other hand loves fries. Fries are a special treat in our family. Anna doesn't like me feeding Caitlin lots of fried or oily foods. No matter how much crying, tantrums, screaming, or whining, Caitlin rarely gets more than 2 or 3 fries. Today however was an exception... since it was her birthday, we gave her extra fries... and nacho cheese sauce to boot!

Nacho Cheese Goatee.... =)

After a good meal, Caitlin fell asleep in her stroller, while wearing her HUGE vest.

New Toy

Funny thing about kids is that almost anything in the world can be a fun and interesting toy... except for *actual* toys. Today, we got an air conditioner for those excessively hot summer days, and were testing it when Caitlin found it.

Insert "Chariots of Fire" theme song. =)

Cheerios

Caitlin has a favorite new toy. We gave her a single Cheerio one day and like everything else, she stuck it in her mouth. We were overjoyed to find that she neither choked or spit it out. Caitlin happily chawed on it (chawing is chewing, except without teeth) and eventually it was soggy enough to be swallowed. How exciting. Anna and I celebrated and gave her another Cheerio. With great enthusiasm, she held onto the Cheerio awkwardly between her first and second finger while poking it with her other hand. She turned it around and switched it between her hands, promptly dropping it until I picked it up and handed it back to her. I suppose the small loop of processed oats was a wonderment for the mind of an 8 month old... but it certainly wasn't food. Anna and I tried to show her that Cheerios were edible by example, and as many Cheerios as she watched us eat, her personal Cheerio was designated for study.

So far I have observed that our 8 month old scientist discovered a few key facts about Cheerios:
  1. If squeezed, a Cheerio breaks into many smaller pieces that are easily lost or spread around the living room.
  2. If held long enough in sweaty palms, they turn into the same mush as if you had it in your mouth for a shorter time.
  3. The little Cheerio jar makes a fun sound when you shake it.
  4. Cheerios are for eating if stuck in mouth. Cheerios are for play if placed in hand.
  5. Cheerios are more fun than anything mom and dad has bought for Caitlin from stores.
